This Thanksgiving will see many families gathering with a renewed sense of thankfulness. We’re happy to see so many families resuming normal activities, and we have many great options for your get together this holiday season. All of our properties have full kitchens, so you gather all your family chefs to create a great feast.
Looking beyond Thanksgiving, we’re anticipating a great Christmas in Big Bear this year. We often wake up on that morning to fresh snow, but even without snow, it’s a magical time to be in Big Bear. Winter in Big Bear means cold mornings that are great for a brisk walk before breakfast. It’s a special treat watching the kids open their presents as you look out over the forest
Big Bear offers lots of great things to help your stay be a memorable one. You can start with a quiet walk in the woods to help the calm and serenity of Big Bear settle in with your family. Chipmunks, squirrels and raccoons are commonly seen around the hiking paths. And as winter approaches, bald eagles become more common. Big Bear is hosts the largest wintering population of bald eagles in Southern California, and it’s a real treat to watch these majestic birds soar overhead throughout Big Bear.
And even the more common activities you do to relax every day take on a new significance once you settle in to your Big Bear Vacation Rental. Movie nights are just more fun when you’re sitting in the comfort of your cabin nestled in the woods. And game night will never be the same as you listen to the breeze outside rustle through the forest and soak in the warmth of the fireplace. This will be a time your family long remembers. This is why so many of our guests return regularly to create new memories.
Plan your October Big Bear getaway, and enjoy some truly memorable family time. October is a special time in Big Bear. Fall colors usually start showing in mid October and can often still be seen into November. The cool fall air is perfect for those morning and evening walks in the woods where you’re likely to run across some of the plentiful wildlife who may pause long enough to let you capture a photo or video to remember the moment.
There are some experiences that many city-dwelling families never get to experience, and we recommend you put them on your list for your Big Bear getaway. Have your kids ever been horseback riding? Have you? It’s something that many of us don’t have ready access to. But it’s something you should definitely put on your bucket list.
We’re willing to bet most of you didn’t have “stay home, avoid friends, limit travel and homeschool” on your bingo cards for this year. But when life throws lemons at you, we say “make a huge tasty lemon meringue pie.” And part of that involves making a better fall getaway with a Five Star Vacation Rental cabin or estate in Big Bear.
Most of Big Bear is back open with observing social distancing and masks. And if you’d prefer, each of our cabins has a full kitchen, so you can cook up your favorites right without even venturing out. Just slide out to the deck and enjoy the cool Big Bear evening air as the family enjoys a great dinner. Grab some desert later and maybe relax in the spa too. Get the picture? This can actually become a time your family remembers fondly.
Big Bear Lake remains the center of attention for many guests and with good reason. Fishing is open, and if you’ve never had a pleasure of serving up fresh fish for dinner that you just caught a few hours earlier, you’re really missing out on one of life’s great pleasures. You can
You’re going to love the contrast you’ll feel when you pull on some comfortable shoes and take to the hiking trails in Big Bear. This is about as polar opposite as you can get from sitting on the 405 at 3pm. There are over a dozen hiking trails in the Big Bear area, and each one offers a closer view of the beautiful surroundings. On your fall Big Bear getaway you’ll be so glad you traded in the smells of hot exhaust for the crisp air you’ll inhale during your hike. Take along a pair of binoculars, and you may spot some woodpeckers, hawks, and maybe even a bald eagle.
There’s never a shortage of things to do in Big Bear, but there is a shortage of great places to stay while you’re doing them. Book your stay early, so you can start planning your getaway. And whether you’re looking to get wet, stay dry, or just stay in front of the fireplace, you’re sure to have a relaxing time.

One of the great things about hiking in Big Bear is most of us already have all the gear we need. Most trails are well maintained and there’s no need to invest in expensive hiking boots. Of course, it’s a bit more fun to immerse yourselves in the experience with some great footwear, but it’s usually not needed. And the surroundings are spectacular. Wildlife abounds, and it’s not uncommon to spot bald eagles. Though the namesake bears are usually a bit more elusive, the trails will sometimes be shared with fox, deer, racoons and coyotes. Combine this with the crisp mountain air along with the rustling of the wind through the trees, and you can start to see how relaxing this will be.
The summer months offer opportunities for the anglers and golfers in the family as well.
