A Summer to Remember Starts Here

You’re just coming off of spring break, and you may not be thinking too much about the summer, but we’ve always been in favor of early planning. And planning a summer to remember starts here. We have luxury, adventure, and just plain fun waiting just inside the door of our amazing Five Star Vacation Rentals. Here are a few ideas to spark your early summer plans:

Memorial Day in Big Bear

Barbecue pork ribs on a grillVeterans Park in Big Bear will host the annual Memorial Day event. It’s a great time to meet with or join fellow veterans and celebrate the great sacrifice made by some, so that we can enjoy the freedoms we do. It’s a great barbecue to celebrate the brave men and women who have served to protect our freedoms.

Plan for Father’s Day June 16th

We’ve had a great ski season this year, but as that winds down it’s a great time to start planning your summer getaway.  And there are some events coming up that that you can make even more special by spending them in Big Bear. This may be a great time to show dad just how much you appreciate all he’s done for you over the years. Father’s Day falls on Sunday June 16th this year, and few things will make dad feel more appreciated than whisking him away for a fun and relaxing weekend in Big Bear.

July 4th in Big Bear

The fireworks are launched over Big Bear Lake, and can be seen from venues all around the lake. There will be lots of barbecue, fishing, hiking, and general relaxation going on. We’re usually booked up for this holiday. And since it falls on a weekend this year, it’s wise to plan ahead and book your stay early.

Enjoy Spring in Big Bear

Ski season has wound down, and now we’re booking groups looking to enjoy spring in Big Bear.  It’s a perfect time to book your getaway with some great hiking, fishing, and outdoor time in mind.

Family On Walk Through Beautiful CountrysideHiking in Big Bear is a passion for many of our guests, and it’s easy to see why. There are hiking paths ranging from wheelchair and stroller accessible paved ones to expert-level paths up to 15 miles long calling for navigation skills and significant exertion. The paths navigate a variety of the terrain and views found throughout the Big Bear area. Hiking in the spring is especially rewarding and will usually bring some close up interactions with some of the local wildlife as well.

And whether you’re looking for a lazy afternoon relaxing on the banks of the lake or a serious angler intent on bringing home something fresh for dinner, Big Bear Lake fishing is a perfect fit. Rainbow trout, bass, and catfish can find their way to the end of your hook on a typical day. And with the gourmet kitchens you’ll find in most Five Star Vacation Rentals in Big Bear, they can end up deliciously prepared for everyone in your group. As any fisherman will tell you, there’s really nothing quite as tasty as a fresh caught and prepared fish dinner. Add some sides from the local market, and you’ll be serving up smiles all around.

Plan Your Special Easter in Big Bear

Easter Sunday falls on April 21st this year, and it’s a great time to plan a family getaway to Big Bear. We still have some of our most popular cabins and estates available for that weekend, but it’s usually a very busy time for us. Here are a few things you can look forward to during your stay.

Screen Shot 2019-03-31 at 2.51.49 PMOn Saturday the 20th, Bear Mountain is hosting a free Easter party. The fun will include an Easter egg hunt, live music, a bounce house, games, photos with the Easter Bunny, and face painting. The fun starts at 4:00pm and the fun continues at sundown with a free Movies in the Meadow screening of Hop.  This PG-rated mix of live action and computer animation tells the story of a young bunny more intent on becoming the drummer in a band than actually becoming the Easter Bunny. It’s a great way to wrap up the fun of the day. Get all the details at the Bear Mountain website.

easterMost local churches will be holding special Easter Sunday morning services, so this can be a great time to refresh both your mind and spirit by starting the day out at with your family at church. Here are some links to some local churches to get more info on their events:

After church, our favorite destination is Sunday brunch at Stillwells. This feast is an annual event for many families, and you’ll quickly see why. The menu includes prime rib, ham, crab cakes, an omelette, waffle and pasta bar, desserts and salad, and endless champagne and mimosas for the adults in your party.  The meal is served from noon to 3pm and kids under 3 eat free with a paid adult. Due to its popularity, reservations are required and seating is limited. For more info visit Stillwells website at this link, or give them a call at (909) 866-3121.

Big Bear has many other fine dining options to choose from as well. We’ve also heard good reviews about the Peppercorn Grill, the Teddy Bear Restaurant, and The Pines Lakefront.

Plan Your Weekday Getaway to Big Bear

The snow conditions in Big Bear are amazing this year. Both Bear Mountain and Snow Summit are enjoying plentiful snowfall and there’s a great base of machine-groomed to keep the slopes in shape when there’s not fresh snow. As always happens during ski season, we get packed full on the weekends. But as you may know, the snow is also still there during the week, so this is a perfect time to plan you weekday getaway to Big Bear.

Planning your Big Bear ski trip during the week brings a lot of advantages. Here are a few:

Smaller Crowds

Big Bear ValleyWant to have less traffic and shorter wait times on the slopes? Your weekday getaway to Big Bear typically sees much faster repeat runs on the slopes, and fewer overall crowds throughout the city. This means faster service in restaurants, more room to move around in Village shops, and a generally less rushed and crowded experience.

Lower Rates

Many of our properties have lower weekday rates, so you may be able to get the same luxury Five Star Vacation Rental at a lower price during the week. And our weekend availability during ski season is always much more than during the weekends. This can be a real boon for organizing a luxury getaway without paying the full luxury price. Be sure to call us for more details and to get our most up-to-date information on which properties are available.

Less Traffic In and Out

trafficJamSki season is a big deal, and some guests encounter traffic congestion getting to and from Big Bear. Isn’t one of the reasons you’re planning a getaway is to get away from that? Well, you’re weekday getaway will usually see much faster travel times and less time sitting in traffic getting here and home. Wouldn’t you like to smile as you pass the traffic tie ups heading the other direction?

March Events in Big Bear

We’ve got great snow conditions as we write this, but we all know ski season will eventually end. So to our ski enthusiasts, we encourage you to book your getaway without delay. For those of you willing to wait until March (when snow may still be good, but…) here are some of the great activities you can incorporate in your getaway to a Five Star Vacation Rental in Big Bear.

Polar Bear PlungeOnce a year Big Bear attracts those brave souls who actually arrive with the intent to immerse themselves into the frigid winter waters of Big Bear Lake. While we’re definitely more inclined to dive into a glass of red wine next to a comfy fireplace during these cold days, this annual activity helps support a great cause. The 8th Annual Big Bear Lake “Polar Plunge” for Special Olympics takes place on Saturday, March 2nd. This is a great cause and a lot of fun. And best of all, you can be a sponsor, and never even get near the water. Check out the ways to participate at their website: http://www.sosc.org/bigbearplunge
That same weekend of March 2-3, give your Scout the opportunity to test their knowledge and on-hill skills while earning a Snow Sports Merit Badge at Bear Mountain’s annual Scout Weekend. BSA Merit Badge counselors will be on hand to evaluate Scouts and help them work towards Merit Badges. To participate, Scouts must bring their Snow Sports Merit Badge workbook and Blue Cards. Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts are welcome. All scouts participating on Scout Weekend will receive a Bear Mountain Scout Weekend Patch 2019. For more information call 909.866.5766 ext 136 or email bearmountaingroups@bbmr.com.

Supergirl ProOn March 8-10th, you’ll want to attend the Supergirl Snow Pro at Bear Mountain. This is a top-level Boardercross (SBX) and Half-pipe competition with the world’s top female pros and a slew of up-and-coming amateur talent. The event is designed to not only showcase the best female snowboarders on the planet, but also to also serve as a developmental contest to help locate, nurture, mentor and encourage the next generation of aspiring snowboarding pros. Free to watch. For info on participating, visit their website at https://supergirlsnowpro.com

And to make sure your March getaway is the best possible, be sure to book your Five Star Vacation Rental getaway.  Browse all of our Big Bear cabins at this link, or give us a call at 310-780-3411, and we’ll help you find a cabin to meet your specific requests. Valentine’s Day in Big Bear

We know we’re a bit biased about this, but we’ve been pretty consistent about encouraging our friends and family the Valentine’s Day can be much better than a simple bouquet of flowers and box of candy.

Beautiful Soft Pink Roses with a Heart Shape Box of Chocolate CandyThere’s certainly nothing wrong with candy and flowers, but they can be a bit lacking in a full expression of exactly how much that special someone actually means to you. And while these may be an important part of your loving celebration, there’s so much more you can do to make sure Valentine’s Day is a memorable event that more fully expresses your feelings. This is where we come in, and how we can revolutionize your celebration.

Big Bear is For Lovers

Feet warming at fireplace with hands holding wineImagine a great day alone with your sweetheart. You started the day with a gourmet breakfast in one of the little cafes in Big Bear Village. You strolled among the great little shops afterward picking up a few little souvenirs to remember the day. You found a great bottle of wine in one of the shops, and you bought it to enjoy later while you relax in the hot tub at your Five Star Vacation Rental. It was a bit cold outside, so you returned to the cabin and started a nice fire going in the fireplace. Later, you cooked her favorite dish in the gourmet kitchen of your Five Star Vacation Rental. You smile that the flowers and candy you bought are sitting on the table nearby, and are glad you choose to much more this year.

Sound like a good plan? We certainly agree. Make this Valentine’s Day one you’ll both recall and want to repeat again next year.

Enjoy a Desert Getaway This Winter

The Big Bear ski season is in full swing, and we’re running near capacity most weekends. We’ve still got lots of availability during the week, however, and that’s a great option for people who can arrange their schedules around it. The slopes are definitely less crowded, and many of our properties have lower weekday rates. Check out our Big Bear properties at this link.

But if your family is in the mood for something completely different, we recommend you take a look at our amazing La Quinta vacation rentals in the desert near Palm Springs. The desert is perfectly delightful this time of year, and the golfing is great. Take a look at a couple of our luxury options for your enjoyment:

PGA107Our PGA107 is a great example of the type of quality and luxury we have available. This one always reminds us of a Hollywood mansion from the 1940’s. It has soaring open beam ceilings and arched doorways over custom flooring. The salt water pool and spa are perched overlooking a water feature on the Greg Norman course. It has a private upstairs bedroom with its own private deck for quiet mornings or evenings relaxing in the sun. The floor plan is spread out over 4600 square feet with room for 12 guests in its 5 bedroom 5.5  baths. Add in the chef’s kitchen with granite counters, and you’ll soon see why this one is so popular. Check out more photos and details or book online at this link.

PGA102The view will keep you captivated at PGA102. Its southern exposure stretches across the Greg Norman course to the stunning Santa Rosa mountains beyond. There’s room for 10 guests in its 4 bedrooms and 4.5 baths. You’ll enjoy cool evenings in relaxing in the pool and spa as you watch the colors of the sunset play across the sky. The private casita makes this one perfect for larger groups or multiple families to share. Check out more photos and book online at this link.

It’s Ski Season in Big Bear

We love the snow, and we’re glad to see it finally arrive. If you haven’t already booked your ski getaway, now is the time. Dust off those skis and hurry to place your reservation in one of our luxury cabins before they’re all booked up.

Winter in Big Bear is a wonderful time. In addition to skiing, there are lots of other great activities off the slopes. While we’re often inclined to enjoy winter in Big Bear from the comforting warmth of a hot tub or by the crackling fireplace in one of our luxurious vacation rentals, there are some additional fun things to do in Big Bear.

Big Bear Snow Play offers downhill inner tubing with a delightful twist. They have a “magic carpet” that takes you effortlessly from the bottom of the run back to the top. It’s a great way to enjoy a downhill run without working up a sweat to do it all over again. It’s pretty much all play and no work. Enjoy a thrilling ride down one of southern California’s longest downhill inner tube runs, and then relax on the magic carpet ride back up the hill to do it again. Sign us up!

Snow PlayBig Bear Alpine Slide is another favorite. Experience the fun of a luge run down the hill. You’ll navigate one of the twisting banked concrete runs in your sled as you race to the finish. Treat yourself and your family to an Olympic experience with high banked turns and long straightaways to gain speed. The sleds are individually controlled and run an a combination of teflon pads and wheels. Riders have full control over the speed with fully functioning brakes for the faint of heart.
