Plan Your September Visit to Big Bear

The kids are just about ready to start back to school, and you’re probably telling yourself you could really use a another vacation after all the running around and rescheduling involved. We couldn’t agree more, and we’ll gladly help you plan your September visit to Big Bear.

Oktoberfest in Big BearWe’re beyond excited to see this year’s Oktoberfest arrive on September 7th running weekends through November 2nd. This year marks the 49th anniversary, and it’s on track to be the best one yet. This family event is consistently rated as Southern California’s #1 Oktoberfest. Opening weekend will offer free admission to all current and former military, fire fighters, and law enforcement. And this year free admission is extended to their families as well. It’s one of the biggest events on the Big Bear calendar, and one many of our guests return for every year. Enjoying a fun day at Oktoberfest followed by a relaxing stay in one of our luxury Five Star Vacation Rentals is a perfect combination. Buy your tickets in advance and get more details at this link.

The Big Bear Cycling Association continues to have scheduled rides throughout September for all skill levels. We can’t encourage you enough to join in on these. Big Bear has so much natural beauty that flies by from inside a car. The slower pace you’ll enjoy on a cycling adventure is perfect for absorbing more of the amazing wildlife and natural beauty.  Bring your own bike, or rent one after you arrive. Check out the calendar of ride at https://bigbearcycling.com.

Baby Goat Yoga in Big BearBear Valley Farms is quickly becoming one of our favorite attractions in Big Bear. They’re offering activities that are just plain fun. If you’ve never gone horseback riding with the kids, this is a great opportunity to share that experience. And since they are a working farm, they also offer farm tours where you can get up close and feed the various animals. And our favorite new fun activity is goat yoga. Yes, you can experience having these cute critters climbing all over you while you engage in a series of stretches and exercises. But your smile muscles will probably get the biggest workout. Check out all the fun events they offer at this link.

Put Us On Your Back to School Shopping List

School Bus: Cute Girl Getting On BusThe ads are unavoidable, and it’s unmistakable that the lazy, hazy days of summer are waning.  Back to school season is upon us with all the flyers in the mail, the extra shopping trips, and the annual reworking of our schedules. But there’s still time to plan one last family getaway before the bell rings on that first day back to school.  Put us on your back to school shopping list, and you can end the summer on a great note.

Big Bear is amazing during the late summer. The evenings are usually cool, and the daytime temperatures can be a break from the hotter days more common throughout much of Southern California. Especially popular this time of year is the golfing, hiking, trail biking, and fishing on the lake.

Golf, ball lying on the green next to holeGolfers can also enjoy the 9 hole course at the base of Bear Mountain throughout the summer. This is a delightful course that offers some of the most amazing scenery you’ll find on any southland course.  Have fun brushing up on your game with their 300 yard driving range and areas for chipping, putting, and bunker practice zones.

Hikers will find improved paths for all skill and exertion levels, with clearly marked paths and some wheelchair and stroller accessible. Here’s a good list of trails at this link.

The Big Bear Cycling Association has rides scheduled throughout the rest of summer. They also offer rides for all skill levels and local bike rentals are available.

August Fun in Big Bear

It’s hard to believe the summer is slipping away. We’re already seeing our first signs of back-to-school sales and having those faint whispers of scheduling logistics after school starts. But we’re not giving up yet. There’s still plenty of time for a great vacation, and here’s some August fun in Big Bear that awaits.

August is a great time to plan your Big Bear visit, and there are a lot of great adventures that await you beyond the doors of your Five Star Vacation Rental. Here are a few.

Group of friends riding horses in the forestThroughout the summer starting in late June and ending the first week of August you can unleash your child’s inner equestrian.  Bear Valley Farms is offering summer horse camps. Horse Day Camp is a fun all-things-horse program designed for beginners or intermediate campers. This program will take campers through classroom, tack rooms, stalls, barns, arenas, pastures and trails. It’s a great way to give the kids a greater appreciation for horses far beyond the typical afternoon horseback ride. Visit their website for info at this link.

On August 3rd we’ll see the 10th annual Tour de Big Bear get under way. This is considered by many to be Southern California’s premiere cycling event. Riders of every skill level are welcome, and you can choose your distance ranging from 10k, 25, 50, 70, 106 and 109 mile courses. And if you’re feeling competitive, the 70, 106 and 109 milers are automatically entered into “King/Queen of the Mountain” with 7 mile climb to the top of Onyx Summit for cash and prizes. There are awards for timed climbs and much more. Check out their website for more details and to register.

JoustingThe Big Bear Valley Renaissance Faire continues the first two weekends of August. This annual event is so much fun, some of our guests book more than one weekend just to return. You’ll enjoy traveling minstrels, amazing food, jousting matches, medieval royalty and more food. Of course all this running around and horseplay can be tiring, so it’s a great time to book your stay in a Five Star Vacation Rental in Big Bear.

You can book your stay online or view all of our Big Bear cabins and luxury estates at this link.  Or give us a call at 310-780-3411, and we’ll help you choose a great property for your summer vacation or getaway.  And if you’d like to explore any of our other destinations, you can be assured that we’re committed to providing top quality cabins, estates, and condos for your next vacation getaway.  Here are links to our other properties in Nuevo Vallarta and La Quinta.

Are You Letting Another Summer Pass You By?

We hope you all had a great July 4th. We sure did. We ate so much we’re thinking of heading to New York next year to compete in Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest.  The fireworks were amazing, and our dogs have finally started to calm down. We know many people are making a long weekend out of this, and we’re going to mix a bit of work and fun in as well.

Happy family sitting in the carThough we hardly call this work, we would like to work with you and your family to help you put together a great vacation this summer. And we’re not judging, but we want to gently remind you of all those past summers when you were determined not to let time slip away. But you did. This summer we’ve made it easier than ever before.

If you haven’t been to our website lately, you’ll notice our online booking feature is pretty streamlined. You can search for properties based upon where you want to stay, how many are in your party, the number of bedrooms you’d like and the dates you’re looking for. And we pride ourselves on having some of the best photography around, so you can get a great idea of what you’ll be looking at when you arrive.

Couple DiningThere are lots of great reasons to choose a Five Star Vacation Rental over a traditional hotel vacation. Privacy and convenience are two of the big ones. In a hotel, you have lots of common areas shared with strangers, and that can range from inconvenient to “who the heck is yelling in the hallway at 2am???” Each of our properties also has a full kitchen, so you’re in control of how, when, and what you eat. You’ll probably want to enjoy some of the great dining experiences that can be found in restaurants at each of our destinations, but you can stock up to keep snacks, drinks, or full meals prepared right in your vacation rental as well. You decide how you want to spend your vacation. And many people prefer to skip the lines and expense at the restaurant for something fun they can prepare together right in their own kitchen.

And of course you will have the luxury experience you can find with a Five Star Vacation Rental. We have some of the most amazing properties, and whether you want to experience a sandy ocean-front beach in Nuevo Vallarta, a golf vacation in La Quinta, or a mountain getaway to Big Bear, we’ve got options to meet pretty much any group.

Spotlight on Big Bear

Big Bear is our most popular destination. It’s about a two hour drive from most of Southern California and offers some amazing recreational choices. Part of its popularity is because there are so many fun things to do all year round. The winter offers world-class skiing and snow play; in the other seasons you’ll enjoy hiking, fishing, and boating. The city also boasts an amazingly diverse selection of live music venues, theaters with local productions, museums, shops and many amazing restaurants.

Of course our favorite attraction in Big Bear is our collection of Five Star Vacation Rental cabins and estates. We have about 30 properties to choose from can accommodate groups up to 26 with some of our cabins located side-by-side. You can view all our properties and book online at this link, and here are a couple to whet your appetite.

CAbinOur Shasta Pines Log Estate always strikes us as a bit whimsy when we approach it. The roofline has a striking collection of windowed gables breaking skyward supported by the full log walls of the cabin itself. It has room for 16 guests in its 5 bedrooms and 5 baths spread over a sprawling 5500 square foot floor plan. It backs up to the national forest with easy access to great hiking trails and sledding in winter. And the massive windows will keep you appreciating the beauty and wonder of the forest just beyond.  Its lot feels secluded in upper Moonridge, but it’s not far from the Village with its great shops and restaurants. Downstairs is a game room with a pool table and foosball table. View more photos and book online at this link.

6396360704This next property is also a great choice for a group of up to 16 looking to plan a great getaway. The Luxurious Castle Glen Estate has been a part of our rental family for quite a while, but it still makes us stutter with a brief “wow” every time we walk into it. It has raised ceilings in the great room and panoramic windows with an amazing view. It stretches out over a rambling 5200 square foot floor plan with 6 bedrooms and 4.5 baths. There are two master suites with mountain and water views and deck access. There’s a first-floor apartment with its own kitchenette, fireplace and living room. You’re sure to find a way to relax with its pool table, poker table, and spa. You can book online and see more photos at this link.
