Plan a Desert Getaway

We know Southern California never really gets extremely cold. But for many of us natives, those mornings when the temps dip below 50 can cause us to shiver a bit. We understand all the Minnesota transplants laugh at such folly, but reality is what we make of it. When we’re not specifically seeking out cold weather for skiing, we prefer to keep warm.

And that leads us to the great delight we have in our Southern California winters to spend more time on the golf course or relaxing by the pool at one of our La Quinta luxury properties.

Located a short drive from Palm Springs, La Quinta offers some great options for a winter getaway with weather that will keep you enjoying the outdoors. The golfers in your group will be thrilled with their options.  There are 24 courses in La Quinta with another 76 within 20 miles. It may well be the center of the golfing universe with more options for golfers than any place else. Dozens of the courses are public or municipal courses with no membership required.

A short drive away is the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. The ten minute trip takes you over the cliffs of Chino Canyon in a rotating gondola giving you amazing 360 degree views. It’s a great adventure up a 2.5 cable ride to the pristine wonder of Mt. San Jacinto State Park at the 8500 foot elevation where you’ll find restaurants, a gift shop, observation decks, a natural history museum, and over 50 miles of hiking trails.

Military aircraft buffs will want to plan a trip to the Palm Springs Air Museum. While most exhibits are temporarily closed, the museum is still offering their hugely popular Warbird Ride program that lets you book a seat for a thrilling ride in a historic warbird. Their retail store remains open as well with many items and displays you can buy to take home with you. And if you plan your visit accordingly, you can get reservations for the F-117 Experience where you’ll get a once in a lifetime opportunity to get up close to view this amazing aircraft with your visit led by former pilots and engineers behind the development of the program.

Have Some Fun in La Quinta

Over the past several years we’ve built up an impressive presence in La Quinta, just a short drive away from Palm Desert and Palm Springs. Our properties are mostly on the world-class golf courses found in the La Quinta area, but there are lots of great attractions in the area off the links as well. If you’re not a golfer, you can still have a great time. Here are a few activities we’ve heard good things about.

Jeep ToursNative Californians will likely be keenly interested in learning more about the San Andreas fault. It’s something that’s jolted many of us awake at night, and it runs directly through Palm Desert adjacent to La Quinta. Desert Adventures is offering a fascinating San Andreas Fault Jeep Tour from Palm Desert that takes you along the fault where you’ll learn amazing insights about its geology and history. See an oasis on the fault that’s fed by an underwater spring, and visit a Native American site to learn about early inhabitants of the area. They also offer sunset and stargazing tours after dark. Check out their website for more details and to book your trip: https://red-jeep.com/tours/san-andreas-fault-jeep-tours/

Palm Desert Downhill BikingAnother great way to get up close and personal with the beautiful surroundings in the desert is with the Earthquake Canyon Express Downhill Bike Adventure. As the name implies, this is a mostly downhill ride. They supply the bicycles and your tour takes you through a protected wilderness zone running along the San Andreas Fault, to areas inaccessible by traditional tour vehicle. Along the way, you’ll snap photos of the Salton Sea, Mt. San Jacinto, the All-American Canal, and the eastern Coachella Valley. The 20-mile (32-km), paved route is mostly downhill with no cross roads, no turns, and very little traffic, making this a fun and scenic adventure suitable for all ages. More info at this link.

Camel ConnectionEveryone in the family will enjoy a visit to Living Desert Zoo and Gardens. You can feed a giraffe, meet a camel, and watch some butterflies flutter by. Pay a visit to the petting zoo, or spend some time with one of the zookeepers learning more about the animals and their natural surroundings. You’ll delight in the massive G-Scale model railway, and see how the zoo is helping injured and displaced animals mend in their hospital. The zoo has been a fixture in the Palm Springs area for 50 years, and it’s a great way to spend the day. Visit their site for more details at this link.

Enjoy a Desert Getaway This Winter

The Big Bear ski season is in full swing, and we’re running near capacity most weekends. We’ve still got lots of availability during the week, however, and that’s a great option for people who can arrange their schedules around it. The slopes are definitely less crowded, and many of our properties have lower weekday rates. Check out our Big Bear properties at this link.

But if your family is in the mood for something completely different, we recommend you take a look at our amazing La Quinta vacation rentals in the desert near Palm Springs. The desert is perfectly delightful this time of year, and the golfing is great. Take a look at a couple of our luxury options for your enjoyment:

PGA107Our PGA107 is a great example of the type of quality and luxury we have available. This one always reminds us of a Hollywood mansion from the 1940’s. It has soaring open beam ceilings and arched doorways over custom flooring. The salt water pool and spa are perched overlooking a water feature on the Greg Norman course. It has a private upstairs bedroom with its own private deck for quiet mornings or evenings relaxing in the sun. The floor plan is spread out over 4600 square feet with room for 12 guests in its 5 bedroom 5.5  baths. Add in the chef’s kitchen with granite counters, and you’ll soon see why this one is so popular. Check out more photos and details or book online at this link.

PGA102The view will keep you captivated at PGA102. Its southern exposure stretches across the Greg Norman course to the stunning Santa Rosa mountains beyond. There’s room for 10 guests in its 4 bedrooms and 4.5 baths. You’ll enjoy cool evenings in relaxing in the pool and spa as you watch the colors of the sunset play across the sky. The private casita makes this one perfect for larger groups or multiple families to share. Check out more photos and book online at this link.

Winter Fun and Golfing in Palm Springs/La Quinta With a Five Star Vacation Rental

Enjoy a golf vacation this year.

We got a call this week from our old aunt Clarisse in Duluth.  She usually calls us this time of year to talk about the weather, so we were prepared. It seems the weather in Duluth has been unseasonable warm for this time of year.  It’s only dipped below freezing 4 days this week.  But even with this apparent proof of global warming, Aunt Clarisse calls us each November to let us know she’s packing away her Bermuda shorts for the winter, and pulling down her suitcases.  And is that spare bedroom of ours still available for Thanksgiving?

Well that got us to thinking.  How wonderful would it be if when your own aunt Clarisse calls (or Laura, or Betty, or Norma, or Susan), you could inform her you’re handling things a bit differently this year.  Yes, she’s always welcome to come visit, but no, she won’t be in the guest bedroom.  And she should also delay packing away her overly-plaid shorts.  You see, this year, you’re having the entire family join you for a winter getaway to a Five Star Vacation rental in Palm Springs/La Quinta. We think you should seriously consider this.

For many people, Thanksgiving and Christmas are days filled with both fun and meaning.  We get to spend time with friends and relatives we don’t see too often, and we’re also able to enjoy some relaxing time recounting our many blessings away from the holiday rush.  And if you want to enjoy this time along with some outdoor activities and nice weather, there’s really no better place than in a Five Star Vacation Rental in the La Quinta/Palm Springs area.

No snow here! Just amazing golf course views.

Consider this: While our dear dear aunt Clarisse lives in an area where even the ice cubes migrate to warmer climates, you can plan the holiday of a lifetime for your extended family in one of our luxurious Southern California desert vacation rentals.  The average winter temperatures in La Quinta rarely drop below 60 during the day, so while all the folks back home may be shopping for parkas and cutting firewood, your entire party can enjoy the holidays in shorts and a light jacket. And while much of the country must pack away their golf clubs for the winter, you can make sure yours continue to get a workout. That’s a much better option, don’t you think?

We’ve got two amazing properties available.  Our Spacious Modern Perfection at PGA West sits right on the golf course.  Imagine the looks you’ll get  back home when you let them know you spent your holidays playing golf with folks who have never seen a snow shovel.  This home is right on the 4th fairway and has both a pool and spa to relax in at the end of the day.  Palm Springs is close by with great shopping and outlet stores for last-minute gifts.

Let the folks back home build snowmen. You can enjoy this view instead.

Our La Quinta Country Club Home is an absolute gem.  This luxury home overlooks the fairway and has panoramic mountain and lake views.  Plus, it comes with access to the Mountain View Country Club, so you can enjoy golfing and maybe even get in a bit of celebrity watching.  And we know you’re going to want to spend some quality time in the infinity pool to enjoy the fairway views while you wrinkle up smiling at the amazing comfort and quality of this finely-crafted home.

Call us today at 310-780-3411 to book your winter getaway in one of our Palm Springs/La Quinta luxury vacation rentals.  And if you’d prefer some snow for your winter vacation, you can view our Big Bear cabins on this page.  Please be sure to also look at our other luxury rentals in Park CitySouthern California BeachesMammoth Mountain, and Villa la Estancia in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico.  As always, you can depend upon Five Star Vacation Rentals to ensure that any one of our vacation rental homes and cabins will meet and exceed your expectations.  We know that your vacation time is precious, and we are constantly working to make sure that your only regret will be that you couldn’t stay with us longer.
