This time of year it’s a skiers paradise with Bear Mountain and Snow Summit, two of the best skiing resorts in the western United States.
But Big Bear has always been a popular destination in every season. Big Bear Lake is well stocked with bass, trout and catfish. Winter fishing is amazing if you dress warm enough. And in every season, many guests have the delightful experience of enjoying the freshest of fish dinners after a relaxing day of fishing on the lake. Opportunities for this kind of activity are very limited in most of our lives and can become wonderful family bonding memories that last a lifetime.
For the skiers, we have several properties adjacent to the slopes. There are few more delightful experiences for the avid skier than to roll out of bed, grab a quick breakfast, and walk a few minutes to the slopes. Our Cabin 9 is a great choice for skiers. With 4 bedrooms and 2.5 baths, there’s roof for 11 guests and you’ll be a 200 yard walk from the slopes. A day on slopes followed by an evening in luxury is a pretty good experience.
Our Cabin 1 is also a quick walk to the slopes. It has room for 13 guests in its 4 bedrooms and 3 baths. Just roll out of bed, smile at your very pleasing surroundings, grab a quick cup of coffee, and hit the slopes. Maybe breakfast, maybe not, maybe just a quick cup of yogurt. For many of us it’s not a tough call when you can be on the slopes early without worrying about parking. And after the slopes, your can look forward to the very comfortable surroundings found at your Five Star Vacation Rental. Big Bear Village is a short drive away if you want to grab a good meal or do some shopping.

Oktoberfest has its closing weekend on November 5-7th. Many people have this on their calendar to come back each year, and we’re happy it’s continuing this year. You’ll enjoy lots of fun, great international beers, and you can polka till you drop. It’s the one event every year we get to break our our lederhosen without having the neighbors post strange things about us on social media. You can plan to find mugs of beer bigger than your head, and fun activities for everyone, including a bunch for the kids.
Women in Big Bear looking for a fun group paddle board activity or just want to learn the basics of paddle boarding, can meet every Thursday at 5pm at Captain John’s Fawn Harbor. Scheduled to run Thursdays until November 26th, Captain John’s hosts this event that they affectionately call, “Babes on Boards.” For a $5 fee, you’ll get a board rental and can join with more experienced boarders to get some pointers. Be sure to bring an appetizer and plan to watch an awesome sunset. More info:
Big Bear offers lots of great things to help your stay be a memorable one. You can start with a quiet walk in the woods to help the calm and serenity of Big Bear settle in with your family. Chipmunks, squirrels and raccoons are commonly seen around the hiking paths. And as winter approaches, bald eagles become more common. Big Bear is hosts the largest wintering population of bald eagles in Southern California, and it’s a real treat to watch these majestic birds soar overhead throughout Big Bear.

The recent storms have finally passed, but they’ve left behind some great ski conditions in the Big Bear area. If you’ve been waiting for an excuse to pack up for your ski getaway, wait no longer! Check ahead when you come, but the roads are clear with no chains required, so it’s an easy drive to an amazing getaway. Here’s the current report from Bear Mountain:
Snow Summit and Bear Mountain limit the number of lift tickets sold each day to reduce crowding both on the slopes and the lifts. Your tickets will work for either location, and there’ s a free shuttle bus that runs every half hour between the two. They’ve made every provision to make sure you’re able to get in the maximum amount of skiing on your getaway. Be sure to buy your lift tickets ahead of time to make sure they’re not sold out.
