Make Your July 4th a Blast in Big Bear

You’ve got lots of choices for your July 4th celebration, and Big Bear may well be the best one. Every year Big Bear rolls out the biggest fireworks display in all of Southern California. Many families make this an annual event, and you may do likewise after your first visit.

Screen Shot 2019-07-01 at 1.52.34 PMThere are a lot of reasons why Big Bear’s Independence Day is so spectacular. The fireworks are certainly one of the main reasons. The beauty of the fireworks is more amazing because they’re fired from a barge on the lake, and the reflection off the water unlike anything you’ve probably seen before. The show can be seen from pretty much anywhere along the shore, from boats on the lake, and many of our properties are perfect for viewing from their decks.

Woman asian Marathon running race, Run up the mountain road.Of course every 4th of July must include some great barbecue, family events, and other activities. You can start your day with the second annual 4th of July Fun Run at Meadow Park. This is a truly fun run with prizes being awarded for the best costumes. Choose the distance that suits you best from 5K, 10K, and 15K, with strollers and walkers welcome on the course.

After the run, you can take in the festivities at the 25th Annual Independence Day Fair at the Big Bear Lake Convention Center. There will be booths with local artisans, live music, and specialty foods and gifts. The kids will enjoy the bounce house, face painting, crafts and lots of treats. Admission is free, and it’s a great way to enjoy some fun shopping and entertainment before the fireworks start later. Open from 10:00am to 5:00pm.

Barbecue pork ribs on a grillWhen you’re ready to settle in for some great barbecue and a good spot to watch the fireworks, plan to head over to the Rotary Club’s annual barbecue. Tickets include a range of tasty options from hot dogs and hamburgers to barbecued chicken and baby back ribs. And the ticket price also lets you stay to enjoy the fireworks from one of the best settings anywhere along the lake. You’ll want to bring your own chairs and dress warmly, because it may get chilly.

4th of July in Big Bear

The 4th of July is always spectacular in Big Bear.  The annual fireworks display is among the top 5 in all of California, and timed to last 30 minutes or more.  And while millions of other Southern Californians will be flocking to public fireworks displays around the southland in the July heat, your family can enjoy a crisp cool time in the mile-high climate of Big Bear.  The fireworks extravaganza can be viewed from much of Big Bear, and we still have a few cabins that remain available.  But don’t delay, we will likely sell out shortly.

The fireworks always prove the be the great finish to a fun day in Big Bear.  There are plenty of barbecue events around town, and you can also plan your own gourmet meal cooked in your Five Star Vacation Rental cabin or estate.  Be sure to ask for one of our units with a barbecue grill, and you’ll be ready to go.  We may even have a unit available that allows you to watch the fireworks right from the deck.  It’s the best of all possible worlds.  Enjoy some great grilled food and drink followed by a spectacular fireworks display right out your back deck.  You’ll be capturing a moment where all your cares from back home will simply vanish as you enjoy the time with family and friends.  Isn’t that what a vacation is all about?

Though many of our guests choose to spend their time just relaxing in the luxury of their Five Star Vacation rental in Big Bear, there’s plenty to keep the more active ones busy.  Snow Summit converts its ski lift to a scenic ride up to the 8200 foot peak of the slope.  The views from there are just breathtaking.  Big Bear’s seasonal golf course emerges as well, so the duffers in your party can enjoy a quick round in the cool mountain air.

Summer is also a great time to get all wet in Big Bear.  There are watercraft of virtually every type and size available for rent from sailboards to fishing boats.  Action Aqua Flight set up shop in Big Bear a couple years ago, and it’s still amazing to watch people fly over the surface of the lake on powerful jets of water.  If you ever wanted to feel the thrill of flying like Ironman, this is the experience for you.

Whatever you may choose to fill your time in Big Bear, the most important part is that you’re together with your family and loved ones away from the distractions and pressures of everyday life.  You can get caught up and reaquainted in ways that just aren’t likely over the dinner table back home.  When you’re sitting with each other on the deck of your Big Bear vacation rental, you can tell corny jokes, watch for interesting birds and wildlife, and just generally unwind together.  It’ll be over far too soon, so enjoy it while you can.
