August Big Bear Events With Five Star Vacation Rentals

August is one of our favorite months in Big Bear, and we’re sure you’ll agree once you take a look at what’s lined up.

If you’ve never been to a Renaissance Faire, you’ve been missing a lot of fun. Each year during August Big Bear sponsors this popular event, and you should make plans to attend. The Renaissance Faire features lots of folks dressed in period outfits with plenty of great food and entertainment to match. Your family can thrill to some real-live jousting with combatants in full armor galloping at full speed toward each other. You just don’t see that sort of thing every day, now do you?  The Faire is running August 3-4, 10-11, 17-18 in Fawnskin. Visit the event website at http://bbvrsinc.org.

Big Bear continues to be a great destination for all your outdoor activities.  Summer offers wonderfully moderate weather, and a great setting for exercise.  Big Bear hosts an active biking community, and there are events scheduled continuously during August to keep your wheels rolling down some of the most scenic trails you’ll encounter anywhere.  Visit Big Bear Cycling Association’s website for a full calendar of events:  http://www.bigbearcycling.com.

Fans of the TV show “Night Court” will want to mark off the first weekend of August to see Richard Moll in a moving presentation of the hit play “Inherit the Wind” at the Bear Cave Entertainment Center. This show is part of the Big Bear Summer Theater Festival which runs the weekends of July 18-20, 25-27 and August 1-3 at the Bear Cave Entertainment Center. Other performances during the festival include “The Lost Van Duzen Gold Mine (Or How I Lost my Mind), and a great tribute to the Great White Way with the musical “Songs of Broadway” highlighting songs from Broadway shows. Tickets are $20 General Admission and $30 for VIP. Available online at http://www.bigbeartheater.com or in person at the Big Bear Chamber of Commerce at 630 Bartlett Road.

Big Bear is excited to welcome a new Rock and Roll venue with The Cave.  Local contractor Dave Stone bought the old Village Movie Theater, and decided to convert it to a 400 seat hall to host the finest music and comedy acts available.  He installed a dance floor, and will be serving wine and beer as well.  He’s already booked some great acts, and we’re excited to see this new venue open for business.  Take a look at their August calendar of events at this link. Some of the country’s finest cover bands will be offering hits ranging from Creedence to AC/DC.

Be sure to look at all our luxury rentals in Big Bear.  We can also help you book your getaway to one of our other destinations in Park CityPalm Springs/La QuintaSouthern California BeachesMammoth Mountain, and Villa la Estancia in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico.  We’re committed to making sure your vacation will be a great memory for your entire family.  Call us at 310-780-3411 for more details or to book with us on the phone.

Your Doctor Called. She Said You Need a Weekend Away In Big Bear.

Well, that may not be exactly what she said, but pay attention anyway.  A recent report out of the Mayo Clinic showed that stress has a tendency to invade virtually every area of our lives.  And when you take a close look at their findings, the results can be discouraging.

Many of us suffer stress due to increased workloads.  Stress causes a number of symptoms including decreased memory, various pains, fatigue, and less romantic interest.  But what is one of the primary effects of stress?  Decreased work efficiency.  So, you get stressed over having too much work, and the stress impairs your ability to complete your work.  How messed up is that? But don’t despair.  We’ve got a great solution for you.

A recent New York Times article showed that sufficient sleep, relaxation and vacation time can counteract virtually every adverse symptom you may be facing due to the stress in your life.  And here at Five Star Vacation Rentals, we just happen to be world-class experts at helping folks like you dive into depths of soothing relaxation unlike anything you’ve ever known.  Think of us as the “Vacation Doctors.”  Here’s what we prescribe:

Take at least two nights. Repeat as needed for relaxation:
For a romantic getaway, try our Slope Side at Bear Mountain cabin.  This is consistently one of our most popular cabins and once you arrive, you’ll see why.  The cabin is located just a few lots from the edge of the National Forest, so you’ll feel like you’re right on the edge of a forested wilderness.  Imagine the tranquility of an early-morning walk through the woods as you feel the crisp mountain air fill your lungs and listen to the muted symphony of birds.  Sit on a log for minute, and you’ll be able to watch the squirrels scurrying across the forest floor jumping from tree to tree.  No phone calls, and the nearest spreadsheet is a million miles away.  You’ll feel your blood pressure getting lower as your mood gets progressively higher.  You can view a virtual tour of this luxury cabin at this link.  See more details and photos here.  Or quickly grab the next available slot with our online booking calendar at this link.

Maybe you could use some away time with your extended family or a close group of friends.  Our Castle Glen Dream Estate is a huge hit with larger groups.  This rambling estate boasts 8 bedrooms with 7 bathrooms in 6700 square feet of space.  Grab a handful of your favorite movies and settle in for a movie night with the gang in the theater room.  Sink into the luxurious theater seating as the music rises during the opening credits, and you’ll see why this amazing cabin is quickly becoming a favorite with our guests. With room for 16 guests, a spa and amazing views, the only stress you’ll feel during your stay is when you start back down the hill to go home.  But don’t worry.  We’ll be ready for your next visit as soon as you are.  You can take a walk through with our virtual tour at this link.  This page has more details and photos.  The online calendar to book your stay right now is at this link.

And if you’d like to explore any of our other destinations, you can be confident that we’ve worked with equal diligence to make sure all of our properties provide a level of luxury and relaxation that you just can’t find anywhere else. Here are links to our other properties in  Park City, UtahPalm Springs/La Quinta Southern California Beaches Mammoth Mountain, and Villa la Estancia in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico.  Call us at 310-780-3411, and we’ll be happy to help you create the perfect getaway to relieve the stress in your life.  And be sure to follow us on Twitter and  Facebook.  This way you can be the first to know when we offer any last minute specials and discounts.

Prudent Tax Planning With A Great Vacation Getaway

Tax time is just about over, and we’re all breathing a sigh of relief.  If you had to pay, the pain will be subsiding soon.  If you’re getting a refund, well, let’s just imagine a few of the possibilities.

Most of us treat our tax refund as a gift from heaven, and that’s almost how it seems.  Though upon closer examination, we find the postmark betrays a much earthier origin.  For many of us, it’s perhaps the only piece of mail coming out of Washington that we actually enjoy opening.  All year long we labor and watch the numbers on our paycheck continue to grow larger in that column devoted to our taxes.  It’s nice to finally get a few of those dollars back.  And here at Five Star Vacation Rentals, it always puts us in the mood to celebrate.

We can’t imagine a better way to celebrate than with a stay in one of our luxury vacation rentals.  Our avid blog readers are well aware that we have some of the finest luxury estate getaways for you to choose from.  Big Bear is our most popular destination, but we’ve got great properties in  Park CityPalm Springs/La Quinta Southern California Beaches Mammoth Mountain, and  Villa la Estancia in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico as well.  And regardless of which one of our destinations you choose, you’ll have the comfort knowing that we’ve devoted ourselves to providing you with only the best quality properties to ensure you feel pampered and relaxed for the duration of your stay with us.  Here are a few suggestions we have for prudent investments with your tax refund.

1.  Make sure you spend the money in a way that is the polar opposite of how you actually feel about taxes.
This is perhaps the most fun of all.  We cringe and grumble over our tax burden.  When we’re together with friends, it’s often the topic of our conversations. We would love to pay less taxes, and our tax refund check is a small reprieve toward that end.  So, it can be amazingly delicious to use that money to pamper your family.  We see near daily reports of how the government spends our taxes frivolously, so what better response than to invest that money into the pure delight of our family?

2.  Book a stay at one of our getaways for absolutely no reason whatsoever.
You really don’t need an excuse to plan your getaway to one of our luxury vacation rentals.  As the ancient Greek historian Herodotus wrote in the 5th century BC, “If a man insisted always on being serious, and never allowed himself a bit of fun and relaxation, he would go mad or become unstable without knowing it.” For the sake of your sanity, please call us today to book your getaway for no other reason at all.  We value your stability and sanity, and we’re here to help.  Please call us before it’s too late. 310-780-3411

3. Book a stay with us to celebrate some of your most important occasions.
Our lives are filled with milestones that we mark to help us remember the most important events.  We all have a birthday, and there’s really no better way to celebrate it than booking a luxury getaway in one of our vacation rentals.  But that’s just the start.  We have anniversaries, graduations, honeymoons, promotions, engagements and much more.  Pack your bags, and grab a camera, because your stay with us will become one that your entire family will remember and yearn to repeat.

As you can see, Five Star Vacation Rentals has some great luxury destinations ready to help you relax like you’ve never been able to before.  You can choose a luxury Big Bear Cabin, or a condo on the beach in Villa la Estancia.  Whether you’re looking to getaway for some upcoming event, or for no reason whatsoever, please call us at 310-780-3411.  We’ll be happy to help you create a fantastic getaway that will delight your entire family.

What Are You Planning For Your Summer Vacation?

We know there’s still snow on the ground at our ski destinations (Like Big Bear, Mammoth, and Park City), but summer has been spotted on the horizon slowly making its way toward us.  And we are firm believers in planning ahead to make sure you can squeeze every last drop of enjoyment out of your vacation time.

Don't press that button without us!

Summer is one of our favorite times of the year around here.  We get calls from all over with people excited over their summer plans.  For many families, they’ve been planning for months to make sure they get everything as close to perfect as possible.  We love being a part of this planning process, and gladly work to find the best fit for your vacation wishes.

We’ve found over the years that many families who have suffered through bad vacations in the past are prone to making much more detailed plans for future getaways.  This only make sense.  The fewer elements you leave to chance, the more likely you are to get the outcome you hope for.  This is where we excel.  We’ve suffered through some bad stops along the way ourselves. Don’t get us started about that little motel in Barstow we landed at late one night!  And we’ve had some fun in past blogs looking at the pitfalls you may encounter by planning a vacation anywhere but with us.  You can read those blogs here and here.

You can include us in your vacation planning with confidence knowing that we’re dedicated to helping you build a vacation that will be as hassel-free and fun as possible.  Browse our site, and you’ll see the many testimonials from our guests.  We’ve collected a handful of them in one of our past blogs here.

Call us at 310-780-3411 to book your vacation getaway now. Browse all of our Big Bear vacation rental cabins on this page.  If you’re planning a vacation somewhere other than one of our luxury Big Bear Cabins, please be sure to look at our vacation rentals in Park City,Palm Springs/La QuintaSouthern California BeachesMammoth Mountain, and Villa la Estancia in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico.  Regardless of where you may go, you’ll have the confidence of knowing that Five Star Vacation Rentals is working to make your vacation relaxing and memorable.

March Events in Big Bear

There’s snow on the ground now in Big Bear, but as Spring approaches, temperatures begin rising and the cold of winter is replaced with warmer, sunnier days. The comfortable weather of Spring is alluring, but it can mean limited accessibility to some of Big Bear’s snowier attractions. March is the perfect time to take advantage of Big Bear’s snowy landscape before it melts away. There are a multitude of activities in the area for everybody to explore this time of year.

One such activity is Guided Snowshoe Tours offered by the Southern California Mountains Foundation. On this tour, you can traverse through the San Bernardino National Forest with a tour guide and become acquainted with the natural features of Big Bear through snowshoeing. This is a great opportunity for individuals visiting the area who are interested in exploring Big Bear’s natural beauty, as well as for families looking for engaging and educational activities for kids. Discovering the beauty of Big Bear in wintertime is a treat for adults and kids both. For more information, call (909) 382-2790.

Several snowboarding and skiing events and competitions come to Big Bear in March, too. Whether you are interested in participating in or simply watching these events, there are certainly opportunities for interested visitors. The War of Rails is a skiing competition that takes place on March 2nd and is free to attend. For more information, call (909) 866-5766. Visitors can become involved in a good cause when The United States Adaptive Recreation Center (USARC) also hosts their annual Ski-A-Thon on the same day. Participants enroll to snowboard or ski to raise money for USARC. Additional information is available by calling (909) 584-0269.

These and other snowy events make March the ideal time to plan a Big Bear vacation. After a day of fun activities like these, you will love the comfort and luxury of one of our Big Bear Cabins. Call us at (310) 780-3411 to begin planning your trip!

If you’d like to view our Big Bear vacation rental cabins, visit our Big Bear page at this link.  Planning a vacation somewhere else?  We’ve got luxury vacation rentals available in Park CityPalm Springs/La Quinta Southern California BeachesMammoth Mountain, and  Villa la Estancia in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico. We realize that you get very little vacation time each year, so we’re dedicated to ensuring that your time spent in one of our luxury rentals will have you enjoying every possible moment.  Call us today, and we’ll help you plan the vacation of a lifetime.

January Events In Big Bear

January is a busy month in Big Bear, and there are lots of fun activities available beyond the slopes.  One of the great things about Big Bear is that you can ski all day, and have some real fun at night as well.  And there’s enough to keep you busy off the slopes to make January a great time for a visit even if you don’t ski at all.

The Big Bear Discovery Center has lots of great activities planned for January.  Each Saturday morning they offer a snowshoeing adventure in the San Bernardino National Forest with a resident naturalist. You’ll learn how to snowshoe, and go for a guided trek through the forest.  Snowshoes, poles, water and a snack are provided. Please bring warm clothing layers and waterproof boots or shoes. You can buy tickets online at this page:  http://discoverycentersnowshoetours.eventbrite.com/

The center also has a fun animal tracking event every weekend that allows you to locate and identify some of the local animal tracks.  This is great fun for the entire family.  Come learn how to track animals found in the forest. Learn how tracks are cast and make your very own. After creating your animal track, a naturalist will guide you on a 20 minute walk around the grounds searching for signs of animals.

The Big Bear Discovery Center is located at 40971 North Shore Drive in Fawnskin.

Take cooking lessons.  Release your inner Julia Child by spending some time with one of the world-class chefs at the Copper Q.  It’s an amazing experience with limited space so budding gourmets or wannabe chefs can rub elbows with a pro to see how it’s really done.  You’ll learn to cook some of the most amazing delicacies and get to sample your work along the way.  Classes are scheduled during the week, and space is limited, so be sure to call ahead.  Here’s their website for more details:  http://copperq.com/index.php?pg=classes

Hear some great music or make your own.  Friday nights in Big Bear offer a great selection of live music.  Here are a few great choices for your entertainment:

Nottingham’s Tavern at 40797 Big Bear Blvd.
Mill Creek Cattle Company at 41072 Big Bear Blvd
Skeleton Key Folk Music Center at 560 Pine Knot Avenue
Chad’s Place 40740 Village Drive

And on Tuesday night you have the opportunity to make some of your own music with karaoke at Murrays Saloon at 672 Cottage Lane.  Break free of your shower and show the world your true talent.

And as you know, there’s also some amazing skiing to be found right now.   So whatever your passion, we’re here to help you put together a luxury getaway in one of our Five Star Vacation Rental cabins and estates.  Call us at 310-780-3411, and we’ll get you started on your way to a great getaway.

Looking for a vacation somewhere other than Big Bear? We also have some great vacation rental estates, cabins, and condos available in   Park City, UtahPalm Springs/La Quinta Southern California Beaches Mammoth Mountain, and  Villa la Estancia in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico.

If You Stay In a Hotel Instead of a Five Star Vacation Rental Your Car Insurance May Go Up

Summer is quickly passing by, and you have yet to plan your family vacation. That’s okay; we’re here to help. But you must listen to what we say, or you could end up with a life of regret. Seriously.

You take a real gamble with your vacation when you stay anywhere else but in one of our luxurious rental properties.  Aside from the fact that our feelings will be deeply hurt, you could well be destined for a real vacation nightmare. In an earlier blog we detailed the heartache you’ll face before you even get to sleep on your first day in a hotel vacation. We start this week’s blog on the night you arrive at your hotel after you’ve finally got the entire family in bed. It’s been a long day, and the family finally starts drifting off to sleep.

Be sure to ask for extra pillows. You're going to need them.

A few moments after you start to swim out into the warm fluffy ocean of vacation dreams, you learn that 4am is the exact right time for members of the Audubon Society to embark on their birdwatching trek for the day.  Now fully awake, again, the entire family listens intently as the birdwatchers slowly file past your room with each practicing a specific bird call they will be using to coax birds closer throughout the day.  While you’d really rather be sleeping,  you are all astonished at the amazing variety of bird calls produced by the 150 or so bird lovers passing just outside your door.  And as the hallway finally begins to quiet down, your room begins to brighten up.  The sun is rising on the first full day of your vacation.

When Timmy doesn't sleep well, he's grumpy all day

The entire family is grumpy, tired, and hungry. But since you’re not in one of our luxurious Five Star Vacation Rentals, there is no kitchen, no refrigerator, and no microwave. You’ve got to trek outside in search of food.

But first you have to find your car. A late-model white SUV sure seemed like a good idea at the dealership when you bought it, but now you’re looking at a sea of them in the hotel parking lot. No worry. You pull out your key dongle and holding it high above your head you trigger the car’s alarm. You hear a distant honking and start working toward the sound. In almost no time at all, you find your car. Unfortunately, you also find that some lovesick teenager has scratched the message, “I hate you Brad” across the hood of your car. It seems Brad also drives a late-model white SUV, and his ex-girlfriend is no better at finding his car than you were at finding yours.  Oh well.

Undaunted, you pile the family into the car and commence your search for food. You’re determined to make this a fun day. You tell them to look on the bright side. At least you’re not Brad, and your car insurance rates had to go up eventually anyway.

Is this really what you had in mind?

Most families get only one vacation a year, and many families can only get away once every few years or so. Your vacation time is too important to leave to chance. Every year families return from vacations with stories of fun things they did, but all too often these stories are tempered with tales of horrible hotel rooms, noisy neighbors and lousy parking. So let’s divide up your vacation and make sure this one is a winner. You start planning for fun things to do in one of our many destinations, and we’ll be sure to have only the most luxurious quality cabins, condos and homes ready for you when you arrive. Almost all of our units offer private parking in only the best neighborhoods. We promise that your car will not be marred with the message, “I hate you Brad,” or we’ll give you your money back. Honest.

This is not our actual staff, but we answer our phones just like these people

In the meantime, please call us at 310-780-3411 to book your vacation getaway. Browse all of our Big Bear cabins on this page.  If you’re planning a vacation somewhere other than Big Bear, please be sure to look at our luxury rentals in Park City,Palm Springs/La QuintaSouthern California BeachesMammoth Mountain, and Villa la Estancia in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico.  Regardless of where you may go, you’ll have the confidence of knowing that Five Star Vacation Rentals is working to make your vacation relaxing and memorable.

It’s our goal to make sure that you enjoy your second, third, and fourth stay with us even more than your first.

The kids will love the game booths and petting zoo, while you can sign up for the log sawing or beer drinking contests.

At the end of the day, you’ll enjoy the luxury of one of our 3 bedroom cabins that will sleep up to 6 guests. You can relax in front of the fireplace or enjoy a movie.  It will be a weekend that you’ll always remember.

Contest Rules: No purchase is necessary. The contest is open to legal residents of the United States aged 18 or over. To enter, just visit our Facebook page between March 16th and April 16th, 2012 and submit an original photo or video that you personally created in or around Big Bear. The winner will be selected by Five Star Vacation Rentals and announced on our Facebook page on April 23rd.
