We’ve Got Snow, You’ve Got Skis, Let’s Talk

If you haven’t already done so, it’s time to dig out your skis. We last spotted them hanging behind your tent and precariously close that old can of paint in the garage. This is the one time it’s truly fun to dig through the garage, because those slopes won’t ski themselves.

With the opening of ski season comes some of the best times in Big Bear. The holidays are magical in the forest, and there’s plenty of fun things to do off the slopes as well. Some of our properties have their own private sledding slopes where you can walk out back with the kids and start your snow adventures right away.

BigBearNightSnowTubingIf you’d like to have a great time with the family snow tubing, Big Bear Snow Play is a great choice. They’re open daily from 10am to 4pm with night time glow tubing on weekends from 5pm to 9pm. We especially like Big Bear Snow Play because their “magic carpet” transports you back to the top of hill after your run to enjoy another wild ride down the hill. And the glow tubing after dark makes it even more fun.

Big Bear Alpine ZooA winter visit to the Big Bear Alpine Zoo can be another great excursion for the family. The animals often exhibit different behaviors during snowy times, and the keepers still schedule informative presentation in the amphitheater every day with one of the zoo’s animals. The zoo is a great opportunity to get up close with some of the wildlife that roams the forest and hill surrounding Big Bear.  Visit their website for more info at this link.

Big Bear Bowling Barn
Big Bear Bowling Barn

Do you have fond memories of family bowling nights? We sure do, and it’s another great activity you can plan during your Big Bear stay. The Bowling Barn has 16 lanes with computerized scoring. There’s also an arcade for the kids and the Alley Oops Sports Bar with darts, pool tables, and HD tv’s to watch sporting events. And it’s all fun and games until somebody keeps throwing gutter balls. Check out their website at this link.

It’s Ski Season in Big Bear

We love the snow, and we’re glad to see it finally arrive. If you haven’t already booked your ski getaway, now is the time. Dust off those skis and hurry to place your reservation in one of our luxury cabins before they’re all booked up.

Winter in Big Bear is a wonderful time. In addition to skiing, there are lots of other great activities off the slopes. While we’re often inclined to enjoy winter in Big Bear from the comforting warmth of a hot tub or by the crackling fireplace in one of our luxurious vacation rentals, there are some additional fun things to do in Big Bear.

Big Bear Snow Play offers downhill inner tubing with a delightful twist. They have a “magic carpet” that takes you effortlessly from the bottom of the run back to the top. It’s a great way to enjoy a downhill run without working up a sweat to do it all over again. It’s pretty much all play and no work. Enjoy a thrilling ride down one of southern California’s longest downhill inner tube runs, and then relax on the magic carpet ride back up the hill to do it again. Sign us up!

Snow PlayBig Bear Alpine Slide is another favorite. Experience the fun of a luge run down the hill. You’ll navigate one of the twisting banked concrete runs in your sled as you race to the finish. Treat yourself and your family to an Olympic experience with high banked turns and long straightaways to gain speed. The sleds are individually controlled and run an a combination of teflon pads and wheels. Riders have full control over the speed with fully functioning brakes for the faint of heart.

Hurry. There’s Snow in Big Bear

SnowBoarderWe see it just about every year. March rolls around, and we start seeing the snowpack in Big Bear fade away. We also start getting calls from people who delayed their ski trips. Sadly, some delay too long, and another year goes by without some quality time racing down the slopes. You can be sure this doesn’t happen to you if you’ll just take a few minutes now to carve out your slice of winter in Big Bear.

We’re already seeing an increase in our snow bookings. And with the arrival of big new storms during the past weeks, we’re sure to see the trend increase. In case you’ve forgotten all the snow fun that awaits, let’s take a moment to review:

Bear Mountain and Snow Summit are southern California’s premiere downhill ski destinations. The storms this season have contributed to conditions that many only dream about. A huge base helps keep the runs pristine longer. Temps are dropping below freezing most nights, so the massive snow making machines are supplementing the slopes with fresh powder most nights. It’s a great time to visit.

New Year’s Resolutions You Can Stick With

Oh sure, we all agree we need to drop that extra weight.  But let’s not waste a perfectly good New Year’s resolution on something as boring as that.  Let’s give wings to our resolutions, so we can embrace them, cherish them, and allow our inner child to jump up and down about them.  Here’s one everybody can get behind: “I’m going to rent a Five Star Vacation Rental luxury cabin in Big Bear and go skiing!”  Now you’re talking our language.

When you get back from the slopes . . .

We’re right in the thick of ski season, and we suggest you don’t delay getting your reservations. Our bookings in Big Bear always run near capacity during the ski season, and every year we have some folks who miss the season entirely because they delay getting their cabin booked with us.  Don’t be that guy.  Resolve today that you’ll allow nothing to stop you from enjoying some of Southern California’s finest skiing followed by relaxing in one of Southern California’s finest cabins.  It’s a combination that is unbeatable and leads to many return trips.  You’ll quickly learn why.  There’s really nothing that compares with soothing some of your tired muscles after a long day on the slopes by soaking in one of our hot tubs.  And when you finally dry off and wander back into the cabin, you’ll be amazed at the great luxury that surrounds you.  You and your guests will enjoy the finest quality lodging available in Big Bear, and then wake refreshed the following morning to do it all again.  It’s a wonderful way to recharge your batteries.  Want to save some money both on your skiing and our cabin? Book your stay during the week.  The slopes are less crowded, and the weekday rates are lower both on our cabins and on the slopes.  Give us a call at 310-780-3411, and we’ll be happy to help you plan a great getaway.

And as if wonderful skiing weren’t enough, Big Bear also has a wide variety of snow play activities to keep you busy off the slopes as well.  Kids and adults alike love the thrill of the downhill runs at Big Bear Alpine Slide and Big Bear Snow Play.  Big Bear Alpine Slide has downhill runs on sleds in tracks that will have you feeling like an Olympic luge champion.  And you can also have some good old bouncing fun on the inner tube slide hills at both locations.  Big Bear Snow Play has a great “Magic Carpet” that whisks you back to the top of the slope after each run in a Plexiglass-enclosed moving sidewalk to protect you from the elements.  Both spots are open for the entire snow season, and offer a great alternative for families with little ones who may not be ready for the slopes, or just in search of a very fun time.  Visit their websites for more info on hours and tickets:  http://alpineslidebigbear.com and http://www.bigbearsnowplay.com

And there’s always fine dining and great shopping available in the Village.  An afternoon stroll through the shops there always includes some delightful gift ideas and usually something that will easily find it’s way into your decor back home.  It’s a great way to spend some time away from the slopes and just relax with the family.

But whatever is involved in your idea of a perfect getaway, we’ve got you covered.  And if you’d like to explore any of our other destinations, you can be assured that we’re committed to providing top quality cabins, estates, and condos for your next vacation getaway.  Here are links to our other properties in  Park City, Utah, Palm Springs/La Quinta,  Southern California Beaches,  Mammoth Mountain, and Villa la Estancia in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico.  Give us a call at 310-780-3411, and we’ll be happy to help you make the reservation for your next getaway.
