There’s Just Too Much September

Honestly, we’re poring over the upcoming events in Big Bear for September, and we realize we’re going to need to start offering a monthly rate for our vacation rentals here.  We certainly encourage you to give it a try, but we’re convinced there’s just too much going on to cram into a quick weekend getaway or even a longer stay during the week. Check out these options.

Oktoberfest makes its annual “why-wait-for-October?” arrival on September 10th this year. Feel free to call it “Septemberfest” if you must.  The fun will the same regardless.    It runs weekends until the end of October.

If you’ve never been to Oktoberfest, you’ve been missing out.  In addition to one of the most amazing collections of international brews found anywhere, the entire family will find lots of fun and activities.  Yep, last week you couldn’t even spell “lederhosen,” and now you own a pair.  Nice knees.  There’s plenty of Bavarian music to get your feet moving, and the kids will love all the activities set up just for them.  Sundays are family day. Kids get in free, and the’ll enjoy a bounce house, face painting, balloons, and carnival games.

September 10th will see the arrival of the hugely popular Young Eagles program at the Big Bear airport.  This event is intended to acquaint kids with the thrill of civilian aviation.  Aimed at kids ages 8-17, it offers many their first free flight in a private airplane.  The pilots will spend time with participants explaining the different parts of the aircraft to teach them the basics of flight and how the planes work.  The free flight that follows is the essence of excitement.  This is something every parent should do for their kids.  And it’s free.  This takes place on the second Saturday of each month through September. More info on their website:  www.youngeagles.org

Weekends at the Big Bear Discovery Center are a big hit with our guests.  You can join them for nature walks and learn some of the little-known history of Big Bear and its inhabitants.  The trail guides will also provide fascinating information about the plant and animal life that surrounds you.   Visit their website for more details.

Of course all of these activities take on a special significance when you have a luxury Five Star Vacation Rental cabin to head back to after you’ve had your fun.  Cook up a big family meal in your gourmet kitchen or just assemble the family in the hot tub for a relaxing evening after your full day.  A Five Star Vacation Rental will be the difference between, “that was fun” and “we’ve GOT to do that again!”

You can view all of our Big Bear luxury vacation rentals at this link.  We also maintain rentals in  Nuevo VallartaMammoth MountainPark CitySouthern California Beaches, and La Quinta. No matter what city you are visiting, staying in a Five Star Vacation Rental property will ensure that you experience the absolute best in luxury accommodations. We would be glad to help you plan your vacation to Big Bear or elsewhere, so if you would like more information, you can reach out to us by calling 310-780-3411.

Tax Time Got You Down? Let Us Lift You Up!

This time of year is always filled with contradictions.  Spring arrives, and brings bursts of color and fragrance all around us.  At about the same time, the IRS reminds us of the cost to live in a free society,  and we either celebrate a tax refund or moan about taxes due.  We sincerely hope you’re part of the former.  But whether you owe or are owed, there’s plenty to celebrate this time of year.  Pull your head out of the tax forms for a minute and drink in the beauty that surrounds you as spring blooms.

We can think of no better way to celebrate the arrival of Spring than in a luxurious Five Star Vacation Rental cabin or estate.  Big Bear makes the transition from winter to spring in the most amazing manner, and it’s really worth it to spend some time here drinking in the beauty of it.   Though the ski slopes have closed down for the season, they will soon re-emerge with mountain biking and scenic rides on the lifts.  Our hearts always feel a pang of regret that we may have missed every possible moment of skiing, but the rest of our senses are filled with the delights of spring colors, smells, and wildlife.  It’s a fair tradeoff.  A couple ways to better enjoy your spring visit to Big Bear should include visits to the Big Bear Discovery Center and the Big Bear Alpine Zoo.

The Big Bear Discovery Center offers a number of activities to help you and your family learn more about Big Bear.  Their nature walks and wildlife presentations are intended to get you more involved in the nature that surrounds you in Big Bear.  Learn more about the history and natural setting that surrounds you during your stay in Big Bear, and you’ll develop a greater appreciation for the area.  You can contact the Discovery Center at 909-382-2790, or visit their website for more information on upcoming events:  http://mountainsfoundation.org The center is located at 40971 Hwy 38 in Fawnskin.

The Big Bear Zoo is a great destination for the entire family as well.  The zoo was started over 50 years ago in the aftermath of a huge forest fire.  Injured and homeless animals were collected, nursed back to health, and released back into the wild. The zoo’s first permanent residents were animals too severely injured to return to the forest . Today the zoo offers daily programs to let visitors participate in feeding animals and learn more about what’s involved keeping animals healthy and happy at the zoo.  It’s a great experience for everyone in your family.  Visit the zoo’s website for more details on the schedules and programs:  http://bigbearzoo.org

July In Big Bear: Fun Nights and Fun Days!

At about 3pm yesterday, we announced that summer is officially here.  We didn’t use those exact words; the actual words we used would be best left unrepeated.  But that was the moment we realized the air conditioning in our car was struggling to keep up with the heat beating down on us while we were parked on our favorite freeway.  This uncomfortable moment arrives about this same time each year, and lasts for the several months of summer until things start cooling down a bit.  We shouldn’t really complain because we have it much better than most folks, and so can you.  You can abandon the heat and pressure of the city freeways to join us in the cool, refreshing, and relaxing atmosphere in Big Bear.  And July is the perfect time to plan this short trek.

We still have a few vacancies available for the July 4th weekend, so be sure to call us right away if you’d like to grab one of them.  As we’ve mentioned in recent blogs, the Big Bear annual fireworks display is one of the best you can see anywhere.  Combine this great display with a stay in one of our luxury vacation rentals, and it has the makings of a perfect weekend getaway.

One of our favorite spots in Big Bear is the Discovery Center.  They’ve packed their July schedule with a bunch of fun and informative events.  Here’s just a sampling of the fun you can enjoy:   Each Friday, head over to the Center at about 7pm for a campfire presentation that will have you learning some of the more quirky history of the region.  On Saturday, July 5th, head over to the Discovery Center at 10am, and you can choose between building your own birdhouse, or trying your hand at gold panning.  The gold panning is always at the top of our list.  Every Saturday and Sunday, you can head over for their weekend nature walks.  These weekly guided walks are not strenuous, and you’ll learn a bunch about the local history and flora.  We highly recommend it.

If you’re in the mood for a relaxing getaway elsewhere, be sure to check out the rest of our properties in   Park CitySouthern California Beaches, Villa la Estancia in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico, and Mammoth Mountain.  We realize that you get very little vacation time each year, so we’re dedicated to ensuring that your time spent in one of our luxury rentals will be a great value for you and your family.  Call us today at 310-780-3411, and we’ll help you plan the vacation of a lifetime.
