May is a big month in Big Bear, and there are plenty of reasons to visit. In our blog last week we covered some of cycling and night life events happening during May. Mother’s Day falls on Sunday, May 12th this year, and this may be a good year to step up your celebration of mom. Big Bear’s golfing season also opens on May 17th at Bear Mountain. This 9 hole course features some some spectacular scenery. Our anglers will want to grab their gear and head up for the Ultimate Big Trout Derby at Holloways Marina. This is a two day event on May 18-19. The Friday before the event will feature some great teaching time to explain some of the best techniques for fishing in Big Bear Lake. On May 26th car buffs will want to head over to the Big Bear Snow Play to check out this year’s Antique Car Show and Pinewood Derby. You’ll enjoy a great collection of finely restored and preserved cars from the past. And the pinewood derby competition is a great family event where you can build and race your own creations. July is an especially good month to plan your Big Bear getaway. Independence Day is one of our busiest holidays. The fireworks display in Big Bear the biggest Fourth of July fireworks display in Southern California. It’s especially fun, because the fireworks are launched from a barge on Big Bear Lake. The display in the sky is magnified by the reflections of the water. It’s truly an amazing show, and one you need to put on your bucket list.
July 14th marks the opening of the annual Renaissance Faire in Fawnskin. It runs weekends through August 12th. This is one of our absolute favorite events, and a delightful time for everyone. This year they’re offering themed weekends. Fantasy Weekend is July 21-22, and you can expect to see fairies and all manner of mythical forest creatures. July 28-29 is Pirates Weekend, and you arrrrrrrr sure to have a Jolly Roger of a time. August 4th and 5th is Steampunk Weekend, and every goggle-wearing time-traveling Victorian is sure to enjoy some fun. The fun closes out on August 11th and 12th with Royal Weekend. This celebration of the faire’s royalty will include a sumptuous banquet fit for a queen, and you can join her for some turkey legs that are literally bigger than your head. Visit the

Head over to Meadow Park on the morning of fourth for the 1st Annual Big Bear 4th of July Fun Run. Kick off the holiday with a fun run at Meadow Park, a great place on the lake to reserve your spot for the evening fireworks!
And if you don’t feel like cooking up your own feast, head over to the Marian Resort on Big Bear Blvd for the Annual Rotary Club Big Bear Lake Fourth Of July BBQ. This is also a great spot to view the fireworks. They’ll have booths set up with games, live music, and lots of other fun activities.
