Tax Time Got You Down? Let Us Lift You Up!

This time of year is always filled with contradictions.  Spring arrives, and brings bursts of color and fragrance all around us.  At about the same time, the IRS reminds us of the cost to live in a free society,  and we either celebrate a tax refund or moan about taxes due.  We sincerely hope you’re part of the former.  But whether you owe or are owed, there’s plenty to celebrate this time of year.  Pull your head out of the tax forms for a minute and drink in the beauty that surrounds you as spring blooms.

We can think of no better way to celebrate the arrival of Spring than in a luxurious Five Star Vacation Rental cabin or estate.  Big Bear makes the transition from winter to spring in the most amazing manner, and it’s really worth it to spend some time here drinking in the beauty of it.   Though the ski slopes have closed down for the season, they will soon re-emerge with mountain biking and scenic rides on the lifts.  Our hearts always feel a pang of regret that we may have missed every possible moment of skiing, but the rest of our senses are filled with the delights of spring colors, smells, and wildlife.  It’s a fair tradeoff.  A couple ways to better enjoy your spring visit to Big Bear should include visits to the Big Bear Discovery Center and the Big Bear Alpine Zoo.

The Big Bear Discovery Center offers a number of activities to help you and your family learn more about Big Bear.  Their nature walks and wildlife presentations are intended to get you more involved in the nature that surrounds you in Big Bear.  Learn more about the history and natural setting that surrounds you during your stay in Big Bear, and you’ll develop a greater appreciation for the area.  You can contact the Discovery Center at 909-382-2790, or visit their website for more information on upcoming events:  http://mountainsfoundation.org The center is located at 40971 Hwy 38 in Fawnskin.

The Big Bear Zoo is a great destination for the entire family as well.  The zoo was started over 50 years ago in the aftermath of a huge forest fire.  Injured and homeless animals were collected, nursed back to health, and released back into the wild. The zoo’s first permanent residents were animals too severely injured to return to the forest . Today the zoo offers daily programs to let visitors participate in feeding animals and learn more about what’s involved keeping animals healthy and happy at the zoo.  It’s a great experience for everyone in your family.  Visit the zoo’s website for more details on the schedules and programs:  http://bigbearzoo.org

Cycling is a popular activity in Big Bear and especially so in the spring and summer months.  Load up your own bikes, or there are plenty of bike rental options once you arrive.  Here’s a map for some of the more popular bike trails: http://www.bigbeartrails.com/big-bear-lake-maps/CBigBearL_bike_rt_A.jpg

Of course, you can always opt for our favorite Big Bear activity.  That’s the one where we enjoy a wonderful meal prepared in our the gourmet kitchen of our Five Star Vacation rental.  After enjoying a few minutes of light conversation after dinner, we head over by the fireplace and just sink into the couch to relax. We Hate to Brag, but . . . Well, Actually, We Like to Brag

One of our favorite things about our job is that we get so many repeat guests.  It’s really satisfying when we get a call that starts with, “We rented a cabin last summer from you guys, and we’re wondering if it may be available again . . . ”  These calls are affirmation that we’re doing our job right.  We strive daily to make sure that we keep our guests happy with the finest properties available.  Here are a few notes we received from happy guests:

Tim T. and his family stayed last month in our cabin #2 Luxurious Castle Glen Estate: “What a great property! Our large family stayed in this home recently and we had a wonderful time. It’s quite an interesting home with huge windows, a tree trunk beam, 2 kitchens, and wonderful forest/ski slope views from several of the rooms. The only thing that was a bummer was the lack of snow! The weather was quite warm for the winter and we ended up doing a day hike on the other side of the lake. We will stay again next time we are in town!”

Pam drove up with her extended family from Diamond Bar for her stay in our Cabin # 8 Estate by the Lake.  Here’s what she had to say: “My husband and I decided the family needed a get-together to take our minds off of tough times and thought we’d surprise everyone with a luxury weekend. Wow! Everyone is still talking about it and we’re doing our best to fit it in our budget again this year. I can’t tell you how amazing our stay was and we thoroughly enjoyed all the family pictures. Would love someday to also be able to spend time in the spring or summer. The best part was watching mom (81) enjoy her three daughters, husbands, grandchildren and great grandchildren and she insisted we play scrabble until we dropped! Thank you so much for making your home our home!!”

Our cabin No. 10 The Grand Lakefront in Big Bear is a consistent favorite with our guests.  It was featured on a young starlet’s reality show last year, and it continues to wow our guests.  Maryam from Los Angeles described her family’s visit this way: “We do an annual Big Bear trip every Feb/March. This cabin was by far the BEST experience we had in all these years! The views are breathtaking as is the cabin itself. There is so much attention to detail in this beautiful cabin. It truly felt like we were in our own home…we were so comfortable! The game room is perfect for teenagers/kids- it’s like they had their own living quarters! We had the best time ever and we can’t wait to return every year to this beautiful cabin! Thank you Barb for a wonderful weekend in your home. You truly designed it with love and we felt it!”

Did You Get Your Skiing Done? Good! How About A Run To The Beach?

We talk about skiing so much this time of year.  Of course there’s a good reason.  Most of us love to ski, and this has been an amazing year for skiing.  The conditions here late in the season are better than ever.  So, don’t let us dissuade you if you’re headed for the slopes.  You all know we’ve got a lot of great options after a day of skiing to make you feel warm and pampered in Big Bear in one of our luxurious Five Star Vacation Rental cabins and estates.

But what if you’re one of those families who has actually had enough skiing this season?  Or maybe you just prefer a vacation someplace else? Well, we’ve got some great options for you to hit the beaches both in Southern California and in Puerto Nuevo, Mexico.

Our Southern California Beach properties are simply amazing.  We have weekly rentals spanning much of the Southern California coastline.  One of our favorites is in Laguna Beach.  This amazing property offers panoramic ocean views and the absolutely best quality furnishings and workmanship you can imagine.  It may be the only home you’ll ever visit where everyone in your party fights over who will do the dishes.  And for good reason.  The view from the kitchen is stunning, and you’ll find yourself standing there for hours just watching the waves and the sun as it slowly dips low in the horizon.  Be sure to double check the dishes when you’re done, though. With this sort of distraction, you may not be at your best scrubbing those plates clean.

If you’re in the mood for something a bit more exotic, we suggest you grab your passport and take the quick flight to Villa la Estancia, our resort on the beach in Puerto Nuevo.  This stunning high rise sits right on the beach and has all the amenities you’d expect of a top tier resort.  You can enjoy award-winning restaurants on site, or take a quick cab ride into Puerto Vallarta to take in the sights and enjoy the local cuisine.  It’s often much warmer this time of year, with March temps often reaching the 80’s and seldom dipping lower than the mid 60’s at night.  There will be occasional rain, but most days are just sun all day long. Spend a week sitting in the sun, and you’ll have a month of people back home asking you about your great tan.  It’s almost decadent.

View our Villa la Estancia vacation rentals at this link.  Check out our luxury vacation rentals in Park CitySouthern California BeachesMammoth Mountain, and Big Bear. We realize that you get very little vacation time each year, so we’re dedicated to ensuring that your time spent in one of our luxury rentals will be a great value for you and your family.  Call us today at 310-800-5454, and we’ll help you plan the vacation of a lifetime.

Upcoming Events In Big Bear

Skiing is still the number one reason to head to Big Bear right now.  With artificial snow being made nightly and snowfall in the weather forecast, it’s a perfect time to book your ski getaway.  But Big Bear is a great destination this time of year even if you have no intention of picking up skis.

Over the years, Big Bear’s nightlife has really expanded.  The sleepy little mountain town that first gained notoriety for the “swarms of bears” found here has morphed into a lively getaway for families and night owls alike.   There’s a steady stream of popular musicians performing around town.  And though skiing is the biggest draw during the winter, there’s still plenty of great activities to be had without taking up skis.  Here’s just a sample of the events upcoming in March:

First on our list is a bit extreme, but certainly a chilly way to support a great cause.  The 4th Annual Big Bear Lake “Polar Plunge” for Special Olympics takes place on March 7th at Swim Beach starting at 10:00am.  Grab your pet penguin and head over to support the Special Olympics.  After you’ve been chilled and shaken (not stirred), be sure to rush your numb appendages over to your Five Star vacation rental.  Pick one with a hot tub, so you can more quickly defrost as you continually repeat, “What the heck was I thinking?”  Once you’ve thawed, keep warm by the fireplace.

If you’re more interested in kicking up your heels than freezing them off, you may want to visit one of Big Bear’s fun night spots. Here’s a partial list for your club hopping:

The Cave
at 40789 Village Drive
Tel: (909) 878-0500

Chad’s Place

Tel: (909) 866-4644

Club Bombay

Tel: (909) 878-0133

We also recommend that you plan a visit to the Big Bear Discovery Center.  They always have fun and interesting activities on tap.  During March you can participate in the annual Bald Eagle count.  This is a great outing for nature lovers and photographers alike.  You may get a chance to see these amazing birds up close during the count.  The final day of this year’s count is March 9th, and you can get more details at this link.

But the most important event in Big Bear is that moment your family walks through the front door of your Five Star Vacation Rental cabin or estate.  It’s an amazing feeling.  You’ll be immersed in the luxury and quickly make yourself at home.  You’ll laugh as the kids bounce on the beds and you explore every corner.  Test the water in the hot tub to make sure it’s just right and then decide if you’ll fix dinner in the gourmet kitchen or head out to one of the great restaurants nearby.  And it will take a while before you realize you haven’t wasted a single moment worrying about whatever pressures you left behind as you walked through the door.

Check out all of our Big Bear vacation rentals at this link.  If you’re in the mood for a getaway to one of our other destinations, follow these links to view our other properties in Park City, and Mammoth Mountain Southern California Beaches or Villa la Estancia in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico.  Your family could use some time away to relax and enjoy each other, couldn’t they?  Call us today at 310-800-5454, and we’ll help you plan a great vacation or weekend trip.

Our Prediction: The Snow Will Melt, and Spring Will Arrive

We’re usually hesitant to make predictions.  We’re just not good at probabilities.  The most profitable trip we ever took to Vegas involved missing our plane and skipping the trip entirely.  We didn’t lose a thing.  But we do have a couple of predictions, and we’re confident they don’t require any special skills to declare they’re true.

First, we know that the snow is going to melt.  Snow conditions are still good right now at both Bear Mountain and Snow Summit, so this is a great time to book a quick ski getaway.  If you don’t have plans for Valentine’s Day yet, you could make a romantic weekend of it.  Spend some time on the slopes and relax in front of a romantic crackling fire in the evening.  Choose one of our luxury cabins with a spa, and add a relaxing time together with the soothing warm waters to help you wind down.  It could be an amazing time both on and off the slopes.

Our next prediction has a near certain outcome as well.  Spring will arrive.  A quick review of history shows that spring has arrived almost every year for a very long time.  Spring is of course a mixed blessing.  It marks the end of winter and the ski season, but it also brings spring break.  Most local schools are taking off the last week of March.  It’s a great chance to plan a getaway for the family.  Some of our cabins can accommodate large groups, so you can take all the neighborhood kids with you.  It’s a great chance to keep the family together for a vacation in the amazing luxury of a Five Star Vacation Rental cabin or estate in Big Bear.

Call us at 310-800-5454 and we’ll be glad to help you with your last minute ski or Spring Break plans.  Browse our properties in Big BearMammothPark CityPalm Springs/La QuintaSouthern California Beaches, or  Villa la Estancia in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico.  Whether you’re planning a weekend ski getaway or a week-long Spring vacation, we’ll be happy to help you find the perfect Big Bear cabin or estate.

It’s Time For Some Very Important Excuses

We’re a bit more than three weeks past New Year’s and we’ve already found a way that a jumbo bag of M&M’s actually integrates well with our diet.  And we’re convinced that the renewed vigor we employ to launch ourselves out of bed each morning qualifies for “exercise.”  All in all, we’re feeling pretty good about ourselves.  With these stellar accomplishments in mind, we’re looking to reward ourselves for keeping up with our New Year’s resolutions better than ever before.  Or something like that.

And since we’re on the topic of excuses, may we ask what excuse you may need to plan a quick getaway to Big Bear?  As usual, we’re here to help with a few suggestions.

Did you know that March 1st is National Peanut Butter Lover’s Day, National Pig Day, and Plan a Solo Vacation Day?  Yes, all three are celebrated on this day.  This is a perfect opportunity to book a Five Star Vacation Rental in Big Bear, and load up the car (alone) with your pig and a case of creamy peanut butter to munch on.  We’ll do our best to track down a pig-friendly cabin for you, but you may need to settle for just enjoying your peanut butter snacks. Alone.

See how easy this is?  If none of that appeals to you, feel free to hold out for April 2nd, which is National Peanut Butter and Jelly day.  It’s guaranteed to be twice the fun of Peanut Butter Lover’s Day.  We’re not currently accepting any reservations for December 30th, though.  That’s National Bacon Day, and the pig gets upset whenever we mention it.  But in keeping with the breakfast motif, we’ll gladly book your stay for May 4th (National Orange Juice Day) and for June 3rd (National Egg Day).  National Pancake Day is right around the corner on February 28th, though we may need some time to work that into the diet.  We’re checking if we can exchange some M&M’s for pancakes.  National Coffee Day falls on September 29th this year, but we really consider every day to be National Coffee Day.  You wouldn’t like us when we’ve skipped our coffee.

If you still need an excuse to book your getaway, we’ll gladly send one of our friendly staff members to your house to encourage you with mild interrogations like, “Are you kidding me?”  and “You CANNOT be serious.”  It’s really okay for any reason or no reason at all to book a getaway to one of our amazing luxury vacation rental cabins in Big Bear.  And whether you travel alone or with your entire family, we’re certain you’ll have the time of your life in your Five Star Vacation Rental Big Bear cabin or estate.   Did you know that there’s no National Excuse Day?

Check out all of our Big Bear vacation rentals at this link.  And if you’re in the mood for a getaway elsewhere, follow these links to view our other properties in Park City Southern California BeachesMammoth Mountain, and Villa la Estancia in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico.  A well planned weekend away in a Five Star Vacation Rental cabin or estate will recharge your batteries and equip the entire family for the challenges back at home.   Call us today at 310-800-5454, and we’ll help you plan the vacation of a lifetime.

Winter In Big Bear With or Without Skis

Big Bear has always been our most popular destination, and with good reason.  Each season brings a new variety of activities and natural wonders.  Winter is our most popular season, because the addition of snow simply explodes the number of activities available.

Skiing is certainly at the forefront during winter.  Big Bear is fortunate to have two world-class ski destinations in Bear Mountain and Snow Summit.  The slopes share lift tickets and a free shuttle runs all day long between the two destinations, so you’re free to travel between them and enjoy double the amount of downhill runs.  No need to even stop for a rest.  Just relax on the shuttle for the few minutes travel time between the two slopes.   And be sure to end each day by relaxing in the luxury of your Five Star Vacation Rental cabin.

Off the slopes, there’s still plenty to keep you enjoying your stay in Big Bear.

Here’s a question for the physicists among us:  What do you get when you cross the forces of gravity with the smooth surface of a snow-covered hill and an inner tube topped with a giggling child? Well, pure fun!  Big Bear Snow Play is Southern California’s favorite downhill inner tube destination.  They’ve taken the age old combination of sliding an inner tube down a snowy hill to an entirely new level.  Their covered magic carpet lift that transports you to the top of the slope without wearing you out.  There’s just one flat rate entry price, and they’ll supply the tube.  With this, you’ll get unlimited runs down the hill.  This is a great choice for families with small children who want to play in the snow, but don’t want to strap skis on the little ones yet.  Visit their website for more details: http://www.bigbearsnowplay.com/

The Alpine Slide at Magic Mountain offers an entirely different sort of downhill fun. You kids will get wide-eyed when they realize that you’re taking them for a wild bobsled ride down a banked, twisty hillside track.  It looks and feels almost like the downhill runs in the Olympics, and there’s really nothing like it anywhere else in Southern California.  The runs are open year-round, so even if there’s no snow during your visit, the downhill bobsled runs will be open.  You can get more information on their website:  http://alpineslidebigbear.com/AlpineSlide.html

As you can see, winter in Big Bear is an amazing time, and it’s even more amazing to enjoy it while relaxing in the luxury and comfort of your Five Star Vacation Rental.  The only thing remaining is to call us or book your Big Bear getaway online at this link: http://fivestarvacationrental.com/area_BigBear.php.  Or give us a call, and we’ll be glad to book your getaway for you. Looking for a vacation somewhere else?  Check out our luxury vacation rentals in Park CitySouthern California BeachesMammoth Mountain, and Villa la Estancia in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico. We realize that you get very little vacation time each year, so we’re dedicated to ensuring that your time spent in one of our luxury rentals will be a great value for you and your family.  Call us today at 310-800-5454, and we’ll help you plan the vacation of a lifetime.

Welcome to 2015. Grab Your Skis!

We had a great time welcoming in the New Year, and we sure hope you did as well.  We did everything in moderation, and woke up with a clear head ready to take in the Rose parade.  New Year’s day was very relaxing, and we’re finally starting to run out of left overs from all the holiday meals.

Like many people, the New Year is always an exciting time for us. We make big resolutions and every year we actually manage to accomplish some of them.  It’s always best to start small, and work your way into the big ones. “Get out of bed, “make breakfast,” and “go to work” are easy and help us feel confident in moving on the larger ones.  Maybe this year we’ll actually get to the really big ones , so we can have the satisfaction of announcing that we’ve established world peace.  And we’ll make the announcement from the top of Mount Everest.  It could happen.

But the easier items on our resolution list are things we really want to do anyway: spend more time with our family and ski more this season.  If your list has a couple of similar resolutions, Five Star Vacation Rentals will gladly help you kill two birds with one stone.

The early storms this season helped create a great base for skiing in Big Bear.  As the storms continue, the condition of the slopes just gets better.  Both Snow Summit and Bear Mountain are making snow in between storms, and it has all the makings of one of the best ski seasons we’ve seen in many years.  There’s really no better reason to grab your skis and reserve a few nights in a luxurious Five Star Vacation Rentals cabin.  Even if you don’t ski, there’s plenty of snow fun in Big Bear including sledding and inner tube slides.

Well, maybe there is one better reason:  spending some quality time with your family.  A ski getaway can be a great opportunity to enjoy the thrill of a great downhill run followed by an evening of laughter with your family in front of a warm fire in your Five Star Vacation Rental cabin.  Each of our cabins is selected for their distinctive luxury features.  There’s good reason why we’ve hosted Hollywood starlets and had our cabins appear in film.  Our cabins are stars in their own right, and you’ll understand that best as you relax in the amazing comfort of the one you choose for your next family ski getaway.

You can view all of our Big Bear vacation rentals at this link.  Here are links to our other ski destinations in Park City, and Mammoth Mountain.  In the mood for a warmer getaway?  Check out our vacation rentals in  Southern California Beaches and Villa la Estancia in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico.  Your family could use some time away to relax and enjoy some time together, couldn’t they?  Call us today at 310-800-5454, and we’ll help you plan a great vacation or weekend trip.

What’s Your New Year’s Resolution? We’ve Got A Suggestion!

If your house is like ours, we’re still finding bits of wrapping paper and ribbons scattered around after our Christmas morning clean up.  The kids are dividing their time equally between playing with their new toys and playing with the boxes they came in.

We had the most amazing Christmas dinner.  Grandma volunteered to cook a turkey with her patented dressing, so it was like Thanksgiving 2.0.  Shortly after the last bite of pumpkin pie was consumed, the dads in attendance dutifully fell straight into a winter’s nap on the sofa and recliner.  We still think this is just a ploy to get out of helping with cleanup, but the moms were especially charitable and no complaints were heard.

As soon as the cleanup began, our thoughts turned to the week ahead and celebrating the new year with our resolutions.  We all agreed that we need to exercise more, manage our money better, and spend more time with family.  Each of these is admirable, but seem to repeat each and every year.  So this year,  we want to share with you a truly great idea that may well take care of all three of these resolutions: Get away to Big Bear in Five Star Vacation Rental cabin or estate.

Yes, we’re likely a wee bit biased on this, but it’s still a worthy idea.  Big Bear is simply breathtaking this time of year, and the recent storms have blanketed the mountain with a good supply of snow.  This means all the snow features are open, and you’ll have more snow activities available to keep you active.  At the bottom of the ski run you’ll be breathless both from the thrill of the run, and the exercise involved.  You can check that one off your list.

Next, we agree that wise money management is essential.  Most families are feeling some of the squeeze from today’s economy.  Thankfully, that squeeze doesn’t need to impact your plans.  A Five Star Vacation Rental cabin in Big Bear is an amazing value.  For about the cost of an average upscale hotel, you can enjoy far more with luxury, privacy, and room to breathe in a Five Star Vacation Rental.  Many of our cabins have hot tubs and lake or forest views.  Couple this with the fully equipped kitchens in our cabins, and you’ll start to see the amazing difference in value you get with Five Star.  And unlike piling the entire family into a single hotel room, your Five Star Vacation Rental has enough bedrooms to allow dad to snore blissfully loud without ever disturbing the rest of the family. That alone is worth the price of admission.

But the most important resolution is spending more time with your family.  A Five Star Vacation Rental is perfect for this.  Unlike a hotel room, with Five Star Big Bear cabins, you can cook your own meals and eat together in your dining room.  Instead of packing up the entire family, piling into the car, and then waiting to get seated in a pricey restaurant, you can just relax and enjoy a meal together in your luxury cabin.  Don’t feel like cooking?  Order take out and relax by the fire as you enjoy each other.  Another resolution accomplished.

Check out all of our Big Bear vacation rentals at this link.  And if you’re in the mood for a getaway in one of our other ski destinations, follow these links to view our other properties in Park City, and Mammoth Mountain.  Want to head to warmer climes for your getaway, check out our vacation rentals in  Southern California Beaches and Villa la Estancia in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico.  Your family could use some time away to relax and enjoy some time together, couldn’t they?  Call us today at 310-800-5454, and we’ll help you plan a great vacation or weekend trip.
