Well, forgive us our short attention span, but we’re going to skip immediately to reason number 98. The previous 97 were all perfectly sound reasons as well, but . . . do you really need 100 reasons? And let’s be honest, how many of you would keep reading much beyond the first five or six?
Reason 98: Valentine’s Day + Skiing
Valentine’s Day is a very popular holiday with our guests. It’s easy to understand. If you book the right cabin, you’ll end up with a romantic fireplace, a great forest view, perhaps even a hot tub. Give your mind a few moments to ponder the possibilities of these ingredients . . . It’s going to be a weekend you’ll both remember with a sigh and a smile. Bear Mountain and Snow Summit are both open with great skiing, so you can add this to your great romantic getaway. It will be one you’re going to want to repeat again next year. If you book far enough in advance, you can even get the same cabin and start an annual tradition. A very warm and wonderful tradition. When you add a few chocolates, some candles, and a nice meal to the equation, we’re pretty sure you’re going to have the romantic time of your life. And this may be a great opportunity to stretch out your getaway. Valentine’s Day falls on a Friday this year, and the following Monday is the President’s Day holiday. But that pushes us into the next reason.
Reason 99: President’s Day + Skiing
This year President’s Day falls on Monday, February 17th. School will be out, and it’s a great chance to get away for some last-minute skiing and downtime with the family. As we noted in our previous reason, Friday the 14th should be reserved as a romantic evening for you and your sweetheart. But many of us enjoy our family time, and don’t want to miss an opportunity to get some quality time together. President’s day weekend is a great opportunity to have some quality family time combined with some great skiing. Be advised that most of our cabins are already booked for that weekend. But as we write this, we still have about a dozen cabins available for a Friday night (February 14th) arrival with a Monday morning departure. It’s a perfect long weekend you can devote to a romantic evening on Friday, followed by family fun for the rest.
Reason 100: You Need to Give Your Productivity a Boost
It seems counterintuitive, but studies have shown that people who work constantly with very little time devoted to rest actually end up being less productive than their counterparts who take days off and schedule downtime. But when you think about a bit, it really makes sense. Even our cars come with a maintenance schedule designed to pull them off the road for brief periods of time to get refreshed and lubricated. We’re still about a month out from Valentine’s Day, so there’s a little bit of time left for you to plan an amazing event for your loved one. It’s hard to believe that another year is coming to an end, but here we are. All the year-end lists are running on TV and in the paper. We’re barraged with lists telling us the best and worst things of the past year, and these are closely followed by lists advising us about good decisions to make for the year to come. Christmas is such a wonderful time of year, and we feel fortunate that we’re able to share this time of year with so many of our guests. But to tell you a bit more about this stunner: It’s a newer log home and had 4 bedrooms with 2.5 baths. The view out the front deck stretches out to the lake, and from the back it’s beautiful forest and mountain sights. We kept running from one side of the house to the other to try and decide which view we liked best. We finally collapsed in one of the top grain leather chairs and decided we liked both views the same. They’re just wonderful. But as we felt the warmth of the fine leather chair envelope us, we started to forget the view and drink in the luxury of the cabin and its furnishings.
The leather furniture is just amazing. It’s some of the finest furniture we’ve seen, and provides a level of comfort you’d expect from furnishings of this caliber. You sit down, and you don’t want to get up. Every time something pops into your head that requires you to get up, it will tend to slip away as the chair just cradles you against the warmth of the leather. Start a fire in the fireplace, and you may refuse to move for hours. But isn’t that why you rented from us? We just love this time of year. Snow is finally blanketing Big Bear in a brilliant white reminder of the amazing beauty of our nearby mountains. The pristine snow covering conjures up different feelings and memories for each of us. For some of us, our thoughts turn immediately to Bing Crosby and our favorite movies from the 50’s and 60’s. For others, the first hint of snow has us digging in the garage to pull out our skis and other snow equipment. And virtually all of us are hitting the mall searching for those just-right presents for our friends and family.

Well, it’s official. The Big Bear ski season has commenced. We started seeing some snow in the last couple of weeks, and Bear Mountain opened just in time for Thanksgiving. This marks the beginning of our busiest time of year, so be sure to book your Big Bear vacation rental cabin early.
